05.05.10 New Nets Update
Most of you will have noticed that work is now well underway on the New Nets. The bases have been laid and the concrete should be in place before the end of today. Still plenty to do, but thanks to everyone for their support over the winter. Costs are creeping up as we seek to build the best possible solution. A retaining wall is to be built in the near future we hope and there are also plans to erect security fencing to help and protect our new asset.....so despite having raised over £5000 already we need to keep pushing to raise those vital extra pounds to complete the job.
Can I bring to your attention the latest initiatives to try and get us to our final goal?
Out with the Old 3 - this campaign is running for the whole of May (the first 2 campaigns raising just short of £500). If you have any unwanted clothes, bedding, towels, shoes, bags, belts etc - put them in black bin liners and bring them up to the club. Once again, we are aiming to collect 100 bags.
Recycling Mobile Phones - have you got any old mobile phone handsets sat cluttering your drawers and cupboards at home. We can use these, whether they work or not to again raise funds. All we need is the handset and battery (no manuals / chargers required). Again, bring them up to the club and help us out.
Buy a Brick - this campaign launched our appeal back in September. The wall has £1440 of bricks available to buy and we have now sold £1290 of them. We just need the odd £5 or £10 donation from members and parents alike to complete the board, so please let me know if you feel able to help us out.
Bag Packing - we are trying to secure a date at a local supermarket to run a bag packing collection on a Saturday in May. We'll try limit it to 3 hours and really make a concerted effort...but again we need your help, by getting your children to volunteer to help out on the day. I will hopefully confirm dates in the very near future.
Sorry for continually "begging" for money, but we hope you can see what we are trying to achieve and build at the club. We will have new mobile covers shortly to go with the new sight screens and the new nets would finish off a remarkable period of development. Without your support it wouldnt be possible, so please help where you can.
03.04.10 Work about to start
After a great fundraising effort over the winter, work is about to start on the new nets. Digging out and concreting is expected to take place over the next 2 weeks. Thanks to everyone for the big effort so far. Thanks to Peter Thompson for sorting out the concreting for us and to Mone Bros for offering to help out with the removal of old concrete and waste.
28.03.10 Sponsored 3 peaks walk
Congratulations to all the guys who succesfully completed the gruelling 3 peaks walk challenge yesterday. This will have raised valuable funds for the Nets Appeal as well as donating to the Beating Bowel Cancer charity. First home was Rob Lintin-French in 11 hours 42 mins, closely followed by Richard Jubb, Gareth Kitchen, Danny Lloyd, Graeme Roberts and Adam. The 2nd group of Andrew Kirkwood, Dave Nebard, Michael Cooper, Rob Daly, Tom Smith and Lee Ineson came home shortly afterwards. A terrific effort from you all and also thanks to John Hayward and Ash Daly for their support on the day. The signs are that the walk will have raised a valuable amount towards the new nets appeal.
26.02.10 Leeds United Forum Success
There was a good turnout for the Leeds United forum on Wednesday night and the evening was a big success. Leeds United stars Leigh Bromby and Jonny Howson took questions from the floor and from compere for the night David Dowse. The evening raised over £400 for the new nets campaign so a big thankyou to Dave Nebard for organising the event, for Dave Dowse for compering, Janet Dowse for laying on the food and of course the biggest thankyou to Leigh and Jonny for giving up their time to help our cause.
10.2.10 Sponsored 3 Peaks Walk
The 3 peaks sponsored walk event will take place on Saturday 27th March. Dave Nebard and Andy Kirkwood are leading this event and the idea is for 2 teams of 6 to complete the gruelling 23.5 mile route in just 12 hours. Dave and Andy have recruited “walkers” but please let these guys know if you can help with transport and support on the day, as the guys scale Whernside, Ingleborough and Pen-y-ghent. A sponsor form is now up in the clubhouse this week, so again support where you can.
27-01-10 - Out with the Old 2
After the success of the first appeal, we are once again asking people to donate bags of old clothes, shoes, bedding etc to the Club as part of our fund-raising efforts for the new outdoor nets. The next collection date will be 21st February, so please hassle friends, family and work colleagues to clear out their wardrobes and put them to our worthy cause. Please bring bags up to the club and we will store away ready for collection. We have 52 bags already but would love to reach 100 again.
06.12.09 - Buy-a-Brick
The next big campaign for the winter nets is the Buy-a-Brick fund-raiser - the poster is alsready on the wall of the main club room whith bricks being available from £5 to £50 each. Please contact Dave Nebard, Bernard Cooper or Simon Barraclough for more details
A big thank you to everyone who delivered bags of old clothes, shoes, bedding etc to the Club as part of our fund-raising efforts for the new outdoor nets. The target was 100 bags and this was achieved on Sunday afternoon ready for collection on Monday. The "prize" for 100 bags is a £400 boost to the fund. Special thanks go to Dave Nebard for all his hard work in cajoling members into having a sort-out and there were oustanding efforts also from Janet Dowse, Debbie and Rob Daly and Simon and Jacqui Barraclough.
01.11.09 - Halloween – thanks for your support
A big thank you to all who made the Halloween party a big success. The room looked fantastic and it was great to see a full Willows suite on the evening. There are lots of people to thank - Joanne, Jacquie, Julie, Val, Teresa, Anne-Marie, Sharon and Matthew Fox on the night and also to Andy and Graham for helping to set the room up the night before. Keep your eyes peeled on the website for more social events in the near future.
06.12.09 - Out with the Old - we got there!
