25.07.10   13s canter to victory at Drig

We were put into bat on a green wicket and with ex Drigh players in our side there is plenty of chelping going on! Runs come at a steady rate and we finish on 115-5 with Roshan Patel 25 retired and Jack Hepworth, Ethan Oliver and Oliver Goor all with good double figure scores. In reply, we open with our pace twins. Ben Jenkinson 2 for 2 and Roshan 1-2. After 6 overs, they are 8 for 3. We continue to bowl well and Phoebe Austin 2-5 and Tom Doughty 1-15 and a run out helps restrict them to just 44-7. A really good effort in a game played with a lot of edge to it.

22.07.10   13s defeated by Altofts

Morley were put into bat on a damp wicket with a much changed side. Wickets fell early but Ben Jenkinson 24 and Oliver Goor 13 not out gets us up to 70-7. Altofts knocked the runs off in 12 overs to record a fine win. They remain the team to beat in the Leeds and Heavy Woollen leagues.

20.07.10   15A team within reach of end of season play offs

Morley U15 A's secured one of  their best wins of the season against a very strong Liversedge team on Monday at Scatcherd Lane to move within 1 victory of a place in the League Play Offs. In the absense of James McNicholl, Jack Seddon and Declan Chisholm, the team contained 3 U13's and an U11, but still ran out clear winners.

Batting first, Morley had the worst possible start losing Danny Widdowson Run Out without facing a ball. Things didn't look much better as the Liversedge bowlers reduced Morley to 40-4 at the half way stage. Tom Swaby joined Chris Rodwell at the wicket and began the recovery. Things again looked bleak when Chris departed for a battling 24 leaving Tom with only the tail for company. However, the tail wagged with Tom and U13 Rosh Patel batting with a mixture of maturity and savagery to add almost 50 runs before Rosh, having made 25, sacrificed his wicket in the last over in the search for a few more runs. Ben Jenkinson joined Tom and cracked his first ball through point for 4 with arguably, the shot of the night to bring Morley's total to a respectable 94. Tom Swaby was the anchor of the Morley innings, finishing on 23 Not Out.
Liversedge found runs hard to come by against a very accurate opening spell from Rodwell (bowling with pace and movement) and Swaby but still looked to be slight favourites as they reached 27 without loss with the prolfic Conner Rowlands beginning to grow in confidence. However the introduction of spinners Jerome Austin and George Robson proved pivotal as they bowled their 8 overs in tandem. Jerome made the breakthrough in his 2nd over, removing opener Brazier to a good catch by Dan Widdowson, then George clean bowled Rowlands and the dangerous Newsome in successive over's. Elliot Harrac had opened his account with a well struck 6, but had little answer to the pace of Rodwell who cleaned him up having returned to bowl his 1 remaining over.
Luke Baliss and Roshan then bowled superbly to take 3 wickets for just 7 between them. With 1 over to go and a Liversedge win still a possibility (though unlikely) the skipper opted to use the extra pace of Ben Jenkinson to close the innings out. This he duly did with a wicket, leaving Morley the victors by 19 runs.
It was a good performance from a young Morley side. George Bartlett was assured behind the stumps on a wicket that offered turn for the spinners and some lift for the quicker bowlers and the 2 young fielders, Lucas and Ethan looked very much at home amongst their senior team mates.
This victory, along side the cup win against Wakefield Thornes surely puts to bed the idea that this side relies totally on our 2 County players.
A victory at home to Brighouse next week will see the boy's guaranteed a place in the League Play Offs.

18.07.10   13s slip up late on as they tie with New Farnley

In very damp conditions, scoring proved difficult for Morley as we muster 82-8 with Jack Hepworth, Roshan Patel and Ben Jenkinson all making patient double figure scores. In reply, we start by bowling really well to keep them to 46-2 in 15 overs...but then with 37 needed in 5 overs in testing conditions, some shambolic fielding, which included an all run 5 byes! new Farnley need 3 to win off the last ball. They get 2 to leave the scores tied. One that got away!

11.07.10   13s putting pressure on at the top

Morley won the toss away at Mirfield on Sunday in windy conditions. After an early setback we build our innings around Roshan Patel and Ben Jenkinson, who both retire on 25. They are replaced at the crease by Ethan Oliver 14 not out and Jack Hepworth 18 not out as we finish on 113-1. In reply we bowl and field well to restrict them to 70 for 9. Oliver Goor 3-9, Ethan Oliver 2-16, Ben Jenkinson 1-1 and Patrick Lord 1-4. Bowlers backed up by catches from Jenkinson 2,Goor, Dan Clark and Joe Devine. We win by 43 runs in our most complete performance of the season. Well done lads.

08.07.10   13s lost at Altofts, who are crowned champions

We fielded a scratch side due to a few late drop outs. Batting first we were the architects of our own downfall with 2 shocking run outs!!! We eventually scrambled to 84-9. In reply, Altofts knocked them off in 11 overs to win by 9 wickets and seal the Leeds Junior League. Congratulations to them from all of us at Morley.

04.07.10   15a squad close in on play offs

The under 15a team moved a step closer to the end of season league play offs with a 78 run victory over Gomersal. Batting first, Morley reach 178-1 in our 20 overs. James McNichol, Chris Rodwell and George Robson all retire after hitting half centuries and Jerome Austin fired 22 in 10 balls at the end of the innings. In reply Gomersal end on 100-7. Tom Swaby with 2-2 was the leading wicket taker.

04.07.10   13s win in Heavy Woollen league

Morley batted first yet again at Hartshead Moor. We bat well to post an impressive 152-6. Jack Hepworth 26, Roshan Patel 25, Oliver Goor 24 and Ben Jenkinson 20 were the main contributors. We restrict them to 96-5 with wickets for Jack Hepworth 2, Roshan Patel, Oliver Good and Cieran Place. Coach, Andy Jenkinson was understandably very happy with the batting but again the ground fielding was not up to scratch.

01.07.10   Victory for 13s vs Carribean

Morley batted first and posted 114-8. Oliver Goor 29 and Ethan Oliver 25 being the main stays. In reply we bowl really well to bowl them all out for 91. Wicket takers were Ethan Oliver, Phoebe Austin and Ben Jenkinson took 2 each, with Roshan Patel and Jack Hepworth also taking a wicket. A pretty good team effort.

28.06.10   13s in action at Gildersome

Morley batted first and Roshan Patel 25 ret and Ben Jenkinson 28 ret put us in a strong position of 67-0 off 10 overs. After they retire though, the rest of the team struggle with only Joe Devine 13, making double figures and we finish on 97ao. In reply we look on track for victory when they are 39-2 off 10 (Phoebe Austin 2-18), but we slip to defeat off the last ball to lose by 6 wickets

17.06.10   Colton too strong for the 13s

Against Colton, we batted consistently to make 82 all out. Roshan Patel 16, Ben Jenkinson 22, Joe Devine 18. Colton passed our total with 2.3overs to spare for the loss of 4 wickets. Oliver Goor taking 2 for 6 off 3 overs and 1 wicket for George Walker, plus a run out. Too many extras including 8 wides but generally a good performance. Just a little short on runs against a team with a couple of big hitters.

13.06.10    13s romp to victory

Under the stewardship of Andy Hepworth, with coach Jenkinson overseas, Morley batted first and racked up a massive 157-1. Roshan Patel, Ben Jenkinson, Oliver Goor and Aran Sembhi all retired, Jack Hepworth hit 23 and Ethan Oliver helped himself to 15 off just 7 balls. In reply, Morley bowl and field exceptionally to restrict Mirfield PC to just 15-7. Ben Jenkinson, Oliver Goor and Ethan Oliver took 2 wickets each, with another one for Phoebe Austin. A great all round display.

30.05.10   13s back on form as they defeat Moorlands

Morley batted first against unbeaten Moorlands and lost early wickets to be floundering on 10 for 5!!! We are in complete disarray, but then the innings is rescued by an excellent stand between Ben Jenkinson (25 retired) and Jack Hepworth (26 retired), enabling Morley to scramble to 80 all out. In reply, the bowling and fielding is fantastic. Ben Jenkinson takes 3-3, Roshan Patel 2-9 and there are also wickets for Ethan Oliver, Oliver Goor, Phoebe Austin, Aran Sembhi and Joe Devine. Backed up in the field with catches for Ben Jenkinson 2, Roshan, Oliver, Ethan and Joe, we bowl them out for 67 to win by 13 runs. Coach Andy Jenkinson has given the boys stick when the fielding has been poor, but was overjoyed today with a "fantastic" fielding display. Well done boys

27.05.10   13s vs caribbean

More Leeds league action tonight, when the 13s played at Caribbean. Put into bat, Roshan Patel 16 and Joseph Devine 22 get the innings off to a fine start with an opening stand of 42. When Joe departed, Ben Jenkinson went to the crease and batted through to the final over when he retired on 30 not out. Morley finishing on 89-5. In reply, Oliver Goor gives the team a lift with an early wicket. We took 4 further wickets, 2 run outs and a wicket each for Ben Jenkinson and Ethan Oliver. In truth though, the ground fielding and bowling were not up to the high standards the team has set themselves in the last couple of weeks and we slip to a 5 wicket defeat in the 19th over.

27.05.10   Under 13s defeated at Colton

Morley batted first at Colton and were always struggling to get going. The only batter to get any impetus going was Ethan Oliver who hit a run a ball 16. We ended on 59-6, our 20 overs including 82 dot balls. In reply Colton are rocked by 3 early wickets - Oliver Goor with 2 and Roshan Patel with the other. Phoebe Austin then comes into the attack and aided by 3 catches from Ben Jenkinson she takes 3 wickets to leave Colton on 50-6 and we were back in it. Colton got home though to win by 4 wickets. Bowling and fielding were of a high standard but it was the slow scoring rate that cost us the game.

23.05.10   Challenge match a big success

With the 3rd team match cancelled, some hasty organisation made it possible to take advantage of the gorgeous weather, with what turned into a Under 15 A vs B team challenge (with a couple of significantly over age players!!!). The 'A' team batted first and posted a very good 167 all out. The innings was built around 47 from George Robson, 31 from Danny Widdowson and 27 from Ben Jenkinson. Wicket takers were Connor Meese 3, Joe Smith 2, Sam Hirst 2 and 1 for Joe Hill. In reply, the Bs made a valliant chase before being bowled out for 154, just 13 runs short. Sam Hirst hit 36, Ben Payne 27 and last man out was over age guest Andy Dykes with 18. Jerome Austin led the bowlers figures with 5-10, Ben Jenkinson took 2, George Robson 2 and Roshan Patel 1. A great day, very well supported. Thanks to Andy Jenkinson, Paul Elliott and Nigel Payne for taking on the umpire duties.

23.05.10   13s on top form

On a blazing morning, the Under 13s had a terrific victory at Cleckheaton. Cleckheaton batted first and posted 82 all out. Wicket takers were Oliver Goor 2, Tom Doughty 1, Aran Sembhi 3-10 and a hat trick for Roshan Patel! In reply, Morley raced to victory in only 9.3 overs for the loss of just 1 wicket. Roshan Patel completed a fine day with 25 not out, Oliver Goor 18 and Ben Jenkinson 22 not out of only 8 balls.

23.05.10   11s slip to defeat against Altofts

The 11s showed an improved performance today, at home to Altofts. Altofts started quickly, but were pegged back by wickets for James Kilroy and Lucas Rossington. Ravi Patel also chipped in with a wicket as Altofts finished on 126-3 (net 111). It was a good all round bowling performance. In reply, a couple of early wickets pegged us back. the boys battled valiantly and protected their wickets much better than in the previous game. They just need to boost their confidence to go for more shots. We ended 45 runs short with 81-3 (net 66). William Cutt 7 not out and Liam Fox 6 not out were the pick of the batters.

20.05.10   13s race to victory

The 13s returned to winning ways with a comprehensive victory over Amaranth tonight. Batting first, Amaranth were restricted to 54-7 as Morley bowled really well. 17.05.10   Under 13s knocked out of Cup

The 13s took on New Farnley in the cup on Sunday morning. Batting first, Morley posted a very respectable 90-5 after their 20 overs. Roshan Patel top scored with 26 not out, Ethan Oliver got 12, but all the lads chipped in, with a quick late innings partnership between Ben Jenkinson and Lucas Rossington. In reply, New Farnley's openers batted well. A wicket for Jack Hepworth and a run out, as New Farnley edged to victory by 8 wickets with 2 overs to spare. It was a much improved performance in the field, but they can still sharpen up a bit more.

14.05.10   Under 11s lose at Colton

The under 11s went down to defeat away at Colton. Batting first Colton hit 110-2 (net 100) in their 16 overs. Matthew Barraclough with 2-8 was the only wicket taker. The boys fielded well in general but put down a couple of chances. In response, the Morley boys never really got going, as wickets fell at regular intervals. Morley finishing on 87-7 (net 52) to send us to a 48 run defeat.

09.05.10  Heavy Woollen defeat for Under 13s

The under 13s were back in Heavy Woollen action today at home to Liversedge. After winning the toss, Liversedge posted a formidable 123 - 5. The Morley bowling was pretty good against a strong Liversedge side but the fielding was shocking and probably cost 25 runs. In reply, Morley were resillient in batting out their overs, closing on 49-5, for a 74  run defeat.

06.05.10   Under 13s go down to narrow defeat

The under 13s went down to a last over defeat at home to Whitkirk on a bitterly cold evening. After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, Morley posted 73-9 with the innings built around 27 from Roshan Patel and 17 from Oliver Goor. In reply Morley bowled well to take 5 wickets. Phoebe Austin taking 2-12, with wickets also for Ben Jenkinson, Ethan Oliver and Oliver Goor before Whitkirk edged up in an exciting finale with 4 balls to spare

04.05.10   Under 15B team victorious

The Morley Under 15 B Squad travelled to Moorlands on Monday and notched up a  fine victory. Batting first, Morley registered an impressive 114/6. A young Under 15B squad, with most players Under 14, started their season at home to Wakefield Thornes. Thornes batted first and posted 111-6. Star of the bowling attack was Connor Meese who continued with the promise he has shown over the winter with an excellent spell to claim 3-22. All the lads fielded well against a big and very strong Thornes team. In reply, it was a slow start against some very good bowling but Ben Payne 18, Nick Thompson on debut 11 and Connor Meese 12 not out battled well as Morley reached 53-7 at the end of their 20 overs. A 58 run defeat but nevertheless some promising performances.

25.04.10   Morley Under 13s vs West Bretton

The Morley reply was going great with Roshan Patel 25 not out and Ben Jenkinson 15 putting on 49 for the 2nd wicket. When they both departed Morley got a little bogged down but still managed to scramble home with 2 balls to spare, finishing on 66-4 for a 6 wicket victory. Well done boys for a winning start.
