Morley High School's year 8s won the Leeds Schools Cup today against Prince Henry's from Otley and Morley CC players were to the fore. Morley finishing victors by 40 runs.

21.07.10   Under 11s defeated at home to Hunslet Nelson

The under 11s went down by 38 runs to Hunslet Nelson tonight. The boys bowled reasonably to restrict Hunslet to 129-3 (net 114), but there were too many easy singles conceded. Joe Fox was excellent in the field and contributed one of the wickets with a direct hit run out. In response, the boys protected their wickets well early on against some quality bowling, but runs were hard to come by. The final pairing of William Bell (8) and William Cutt (10) helped Morley finish on 91-3 (net 76) and a 38 run defeat.

20.07.10   15a move within 1 win of league play offs

Morley U15 A's secured one of  their best wins of the season against a very strong Liversedge team on Monday at Scatcherd Lane to move within 1 victory of a place in the League Play Offs. In the absense of James McNicholl, Jack Seddon and Declan Chisholm, the team contained 3 U13's and an U11, but still ran out clear winners. For the full match report, follow the link match report

19.07.10   North of England call up for McNichol

Further recognition for our juniors has come in the form of a call up to the North of England U15 representative team for James McNichol. James continues to impress all comers and his selection at this level is a major achievement.

'Chez' has a busy week ahead as he features in games for Yorkshire, along with Jack Seddon in Burnley, Liverpool, Leeds and Cheshire in the next 5 days. Both boys contributed in the 1st game against Lancashire, James with 28 and Jack with 38 before the game was abandoned. The "no result" assured Yorkshire moved through to the next stage, against Cheshire.

19.07.10   Juniors in Representative action

A number of our juniors were in Rep matches on Sunday. Morley CC hosted the Heavy Woollen U15s and Jerome Austin and Chris Rodwell both featured in a comfortable victory against the Barnsley League. Batting first, HW made 199, before bowling Barnsley out for 108, for a 191 run victory.

Elsewhere, Leeds League taverners U13 team friendly against Nidderdale featured Ben Jenkinson and Roshan Patel. Nidderdale batted first and were bowled out for 155 (Jenkinson 6-1-17-1 and Patel 5-1-13-1). In reply Roshan Patel opened the batting and top scored with 29, Ben Jenkinson making a rapid 16. Leeds were all out for 122. Both boys retaining their place for the 3 Taverners matching coming up at the end of the month.

We also had Phoebe Austin playing her part again for the West Yorkshire girls team over in Silsden. Phoebe bowled excellently to end with figures of 1-4 from her 3 overs, her wicket being a county opener, clean bowled. She wasnt finished though and scored a direct hit run out, before taking a good catch in the deep.

A terrific achievement by all. Well done from everyone up at Morley CC.

19.07.10   13s in dramatic last ball tie.

The 13s hosted New Farnley in damp conditions on Sunday and went away disappointed with a tie. Follow link for the match report match report

19.07.10   Seniors disappointing weekend

It was a disappointing weekend for both senior teams. The 1sts were looking to maintain their recent good form away at Hartshead Moor. Morley had the home team struggling on 68-6, with Jason Wilson taking 4 wickets. Late resistance though took Hartshead Moor up to 169-8. In reply, Morley lost wickets at regular intervals as they were all out for 111. Colin Nuthall top scoring with 35.

The 2nds hosted East Bierley and a good fielding and bowling display looked to have the 2nds in a good position when they bowled East Bierley out for 145 (Liam Finn 4 wickets). However, a shocking batting display saw Morley bowled out for only 43. They will put this behind them in time for next weekends double header weekend.

12.07.10   Phoebe impresses for West Yorkshire ladies

Phoebe Austin did Morley proud last week when she was asked to represent W Yorks U15's (although still an U13) in the play off Final against a very strong side representing South Yorkshire.
Wests batted first and made a creditable 150-5 (Mirfields Emma Bolt scoring 54 NO). The South began their reply strongly, and after just 7 overs were 60-0 with 2 full County openers scoring freely. Phoebe then entered the attack and struck with her 4th ball, clean bowling the opener. In her next over, she clean bowled the Souths No3, who was also a full Yorkshire bat. She bowled a further 3 overs to complete a spell of 2-14 from 5 overs. She was then called on again with 2 overs to go required and just 14 required by Souths to win the game and the Championship. Phoebe bowled against the South's top scorer who was on 54 NO. The over went for only 6 runs and included a run out. This left The South to score 8 from the last over. This proved to be beyond them and The West won by 4 runs. Well done Phoebe for a match turning spell of bowling.

11.07.10   13s keep up the pressure

The 13s defeated Mirfield by 43 runs on Sunday, to keep up the pressure on the top 3 in the league. Follow link for match report link

10.07.10   Firsts in terrific victory

The 1st team are celebrating tonight after a terrific run chase against Keighley. Keighley made 235-1 in their 50 overs, but that wasnt enough against a determined Morley. Danny Lloyd led the way with 73, but there was great support from Adam Larkin, Jason Wilson and Dave Nebard, before Nathan Bromby hit the first ball of the final over for 4 to secure a brilliant victory.scorecard

Meanwhile the 2nds slipped to a disappointing defeat at home to Pudsey Congs. Batting first, Morley could only muster 125ao. Congs knocked them off with the loss fo 6 wickets. scorecard

06.07.10   15a through to cup finals day

A weakened 15s squad, had a great win tonight against Wakefield Thornes in the Marsdin Cup. Morley batted first and George Robson led the way with 36 retired. He was well supported by Jerome Austin 24 not out and a quick fire 19 from Danny Widdowson as Morley finished on 126-4. In reply, Thornes were restricted to 96-6 with Ben Jenkinson taking 2-7 and Roshan Patel taking 2-15. The victory takes Morley through to Finals day on Sunday 29th April, where they will play at New Farnley CC against West Bretton in the semi final at 1pm, with the final scheduled for 4pm. Well done to all!

06.07.10   Half way averages

06.07.10   New Nets

Our little army of volunteers continue to work on the new nets. Despite the fact that we had some poles pinched this week, the guys have now got all the poles up. To protect the facility we will be ordering perimeter fencing this week, which when in position will just leave the netting and matting to complete. We are still a little short of funding to complete everything, so please support our fundraising events where you can and there are still afew bricks left on the wall if you can help at all. Thankyou!

06.07.10   Dates for the diary

05.07.10   15a team march on

The 15a team continued their quest for a league play off spot with a comfortable 78 run victoru over Gomersal on Monday. Follow link for match report match report

04.07.10   3rds defeated at home to Gomersal

It was a familiar story for the 3rd team on Sunday. Batting first, Morley's young guns did well to bat their 40 overs and make a highly respectable 151-9. The main contribution came from Under 15s Danny Widdowson, who batting at number 6, hit an impressive 58, including 6 fours and 2 sixes. He was supported by Chris Rodwell with 23. The Gildersome reply though was formidable and with 5 first teamers in their midst, they made light work of the reply, with opener Simpson retiring on 100. Joe Hill, Chris Rodwell and Andy Dykes took wickets and there was a run out. Gildersome finally winning by 4 wickets.

04.07.10   13s win at Hartshead Moor

The 13s were victorious on Sunday, with a big 56 run victory vs Hartshead Moor. See link for match report match report

03.07.10   Senior teams cruise to victory

The first team hosted Idle on Saturday and demolished the opposition in a ruthless display. Idle were shot out for 51, with captain Dave Nebard leading the way with 5-6 off 9.2 overs! In reply, Morley cruised to a 9 wicket win, with James McNichol impressing with 35 not out.

Meanwhile, the seconds had a comfortable 88 run victory at Lightcliffe. Nav Siddique and Andy Kirkwood both hit 31, but it was a run a ball partnership between Richard Winn 42 and Jack Seddon 49 that made the final total of 218 possible. In reply, Lightcliffe lost wickets at regular intervals. Liam Fynn taking the bowling honours with 6-39.

28.06.10   1st team move up the table with impressive victory.

Morley moved up 2 places in the league with a deserved victory at home to Manningham Mills on Saturday. Impressive bowling from Jason Wilson 4wickets, Dave Nebard 3 and Jimmy Russell 2, meant Mills were bowled out for 138. In reply, opener Neil Johnson laid the foundations with 35, but the hero was James McNichol, who timed his innings to perfection, with an impressive 48 not out to see Morley home by 5 wickets.

28.06.10   13s defeated in last ball thriller

The 13s slipped to defeat on Sunday, with a last ball defeat at Gildersome. See match report for further details match report

28.06.10   3rd team defeated in 20/20 challenge

The 3rd team went down to a 57 run defeat against Altofts on Sunday. Again the difference was the opposition 1st teamer. Alex Vanderzon a 17 year old from Adelaide laid the foundations for a big Altofts total with a rapid 61. Other than a useful contribution from another senior player, the young Morley side competed well with wickets shared amongst George Robson, Matty Fox, and Connor Meese. Jamie Elliott had 3 stumping victims, as Altofts finished on 143. In reply, only George Robson 31 and Ben Payne offered any resistance as Morley ended on 86 all out.

20.06.10   3rds defeated at Ossett.

Unusually the sun shone for a rare Sunday to give the 3rd team the chance to complete a full match. The young Morley battled well, but had no response to the senior players who turned out for Ossett. Ex Morley player Gavin Goodlad, dropping down from the Ossett Senior team, opened and hit 125not out in a score of 238ao. Luke Bayliss on debut took 3-51 and Ben Jenkinson mopped up the tail to finish with 3-44. In reply, Morley were always struggling before being bowled out for 68. Chris Rodwell top scoring with 15. A big defeat but captain Andy Kirkwood said he took a lot of positives out of the game. Ultimately it was the hosts 2 senior players who took the game away from us.

20.06.10   2nds knocked out of Shield

A disappointing exit from the Priestley Shield for the 2nd team at Yeadon. Morley didnt take full advantage of a 60 run opening partnership between Ryan Dowse 27 and Nav Siddique 44, ending on 151ao. Morley had the hosts in trouble at 70-4, 2 wickets for Graeme Roberts and 1 each for Matthew Dowse and Richard Winn. Yeadon ran out comfortable 6 wicket winners though eventually and ended the Morley boys' cup run.

19.06.10   Wins for both senior teams

It was a good day at the office for senior teams, with firsts and seconds chasing down challenging targets to record victories. The first team travelled to Great Horton and with 3 wickets for Nathan Bromby and 2 each for Jimmy Russell and Dave Nebard, restricted the home team to 196-8. In reply, the firsts timed their reply to perfection, mainly due to a 99 run 4th wicket partnership between Michael Cooper, 48 and Adam Larkin 61, as they recorded a 5 wicket win scorecard

The seconds owed much to opening bowler Spenser Horsfall, who took his first 5 wicket haul of the season to end with 5-39 as Bradford & Bingley stuttered to 171-9 (only ex-Morley player Mikey Davies with 63 providing any resistance). In reply, the result was never in doubt as Ryan Dowse and Nav Siddique posted a huge 158 run opening partnership. Ryan hit 60, while Nav posted his highest score for Morley of 80. Both fell just before the end, but Morley wrapped up a 6 wicket win.  scorecard

07.06.10   Mixed results for seniors

A 4 wicket win for the first team on Saturday at home to Brighouse. Nathan Bromby and Jimmy Russell taking 4 wickets each as Brighouse made 143 all out. Despite a few scares along the way, Danny Lloyd 37, James McNichol 25, Adam Larkin 31 not out and Dave Nebard 21 saw Morley home by 4 wickets.

The seconds went down to defeat at Hanging Heaton. Returning from injury Colin Nuthall made a rapid 66, but Morley relied on tail end resistance from Spenser Horsfall 17, Graeme Roberts 39 and Tom Smith 30 to get us up to 204ao. The hosts attacked from the start and soon had the Morley bowlers on the defensive. There was a glimmer of hope when they went 3 down for 106, but then Hanging Heaton took the game away from Morley and secured a 5 wicket win.

Sundays 20/20 at brighouse was a victim to the heavy weather. Brighouse made 142 in their 20 overs, but the rain prevented any Morley reply.

05.05.10   We want your clothes, your phones and lots lots more!!!

Most of you will have noticed that work is now well underway on the New Nets. The bases have been laid and the concrete should be in place before the end of today. Still plenty to do, but thanks to everyone for their support over the winter. Costs are creeping up as we seek to build the best possible solution. A retaining wall is to be built in the near future we hope and there are also plans to erect security fencing to help and protect our new asset.....so despite having raised over £5000 already we need to keep pushing to raise those vital extra pounds to complete the job.

Can I bring to your attention the latest initiatives to try and get us to our final goal?

Out with the Old 3 - this campaign is running for the whole of May (the first 2 campaigns raising just short of £500). If you have any unwanted clothes, bedding, towels, shoes, bags, belts etc - put them in black bin liners and bring them up to the club. Once again, we are aiming to collect 100 bags.

Recycling Mobile Phones - have you got any old mobile phone handsets sat cluttering your drawers and cupboards at home. We can use these, whether they work or not to again raise funds. All we need is the handset and battery (no manuals / chargers required). Again, bring them up to the club and help us out.

Buy a Brick - this campaign launched our appeal back in September. The wall has £1440 of bricks available to buy and we have now sold £1290 of them. We just need the odd £5 or £10 donation from members and parents alike to complete the board, so please let me know if you feel able to help us out.

Bag Packing - we are trying to secure a date at a local supermarket to run a bag packing collection on a Saturday in May. We'll try limit it to 3 hours and really make a concerted effort...but again we need your help, by getting your children to volunteer to help out on the day. I will hopefully confirm dates in the very near future.

Sorry for continually "begging" for money, but we hope you can see what we are trying to achieve and build at the club. We will have new mobile covers shortly to go with the new sight screens and the new nets would finish off a remarkable period of development. Without your support it wouldnt be possible, so please help where you can.

04.05.10   Under 15B team victorious

The Morley Under 15 B Squad travelled to Moorlands on Monday and notched up a  fine victory. Batting first, Morley registered an impressive 114/6. In reply, Morley raced to 64-0 off the first 10 overs before they lost Nav Siddique (40) and Ryan Dowse (24) in quick succession. Jack Seddon then settled the innings down with 31, before Matti Bramley and Richard Winn steered Morley home with 16 overs to spare for a 5 wicket win. Matti Bramley launching a remarkable late onslaught, hitting a spectacular 46 not out (his last 32 runs coming in 9 balls).Scorecard

The 3rd team also got their season started away at Gildersome. In what could be the youngest senior team we have ever put out, with 9 under 15s, the boys performed admirably against Gildersome. Batting first under the captaincy of Andy Dykes, Morley made 131 before they were all out in the 36th over. George Robson 39 and Connor Meese 27 were the main contributors. In reply, 13 year old Ben Jenkinson took an early wicket, but at 90-1, with 1st team regular Max Elliott approaching 50, the home team looked to be cruising home. However, the boys had other ideas and at 114-7 it looked like an unlikely win was on the cards. It wasnt to be as Gildersome edged home by 2 wickets. Connor Meese finishing a good all round day with 2 wickets. A very promising performance despite the defeat.Scorecard

01.05.10   Mixed results for 1sts and 2nds

Morley 1sts fell to a heavy defeat on Saturday at home to Hartshead Moor. Bowling Hartshead out for 141 the match looked Morley's for the taking, but a very poor batting display saw them collapse to 59 all out. Scorecard

Meanwhile the 2nds won away at East Bierley by 16 runs in a high scoring affair. Batting first Morley finished their 50 overs on 253-8. James McNichol was again in the runs with 85 not out, while opener Nav Siddique hit a rapid 45. In reply East Bierley battled to 237 ao. Morley go 2nd in the table after picking up a maximum 20 points.Scorecard

17.04.10   Opening day highlights

It was a convincing opening day victory for the first team away at Idle, with new overseas star Jason Wilson taking 5-10 on debut, to wrap up a 112 run victory. The foundations for victory had been laid earlier by Neil Johnson with 51 and a explosive late innings from Adam Larkin with 74 in a total of 191-6.

The 2nd team fell just 2 runs short at home to Lightcliffe in a match that saw over 400 runs. Lightcliffe having been in trouble at 76-5, recovered to 213. Richard Winn with 4 and Spenser Horsfall with 3 were the main wicket takers. In reply there were useful contributions from Ryan Dowse 38, Richard Winn 37 and John Hyde 32, but despite a 6 in the last over from Matthew Dowse, Morley fell just short.

As previously announced some of our juniors have linked up with Pollington in the CYCL and made an instant impression. Batting first against Oulton, George Bartlett top scored with 27. In reply, Oulton couldnt live with the bowling of Morley youngsters Chris Rodwell and ben Payne who each took 4 wickets in a comfortable victory. There were also surprise contributions from Graham Austin and Nigel Payne, who both turned out to help make up the numbers. Graham with a rapid 20 and Nigel with 2 catches certainly made an impression.

11.04.10 Useful work out for first team

The First X1 took advantage of the spell of fine early spring weather to fit in a pre season friendly on Saturday. They travelled down to the Rotherham/Sheffield borderlands to visit South Yorkshire side Wickersley Old Village at their well appointed ground.

Captain Dave Nebard took a 13 man squad for the game, including new overseas player Jason Wilson, who arrived from Melbourne on Friday, after an overnight stay in London Thursday night.

The home side batted first in the 45 over game and scored a total of 199-8. First out of the traps in 2010 for Morley was off spinner Tom Smith who grabbed a 5 wicket haul. James Russell (2) and a run out accounted for the other wickets and their were also some good spells from Nathan Bromby, Ash Daly and, particularly, Jason Wilson, who soon adapted to English conditions with a very tight spell of medium pace bowling.

The Morley reply sould not have got off to a better start, with Danny Lloyd (85) and new signing Neil Johnson (62) combining superbly for an opening stand of 150. This pair seemed to have set up victory for the visitors, but once they had gone panic seemed to set in to the Morley ranks with only Dave Nebard (17) getting into double figures. Four first ball ducks told its own story as Wickersley's Norton ran riot with a late burst yielding 5 wickets and the visitors were dismissed for 186.

Although a disappointing end, the game will have proved very useful for all the players. Better days will come for all the batsmen and the LLoyd/Johnson combination showed great promise.

Many thanks to everyone at Wickersley for staging the game and for their warm hospitality.
